Buckle up friends; we bring to you yet another very scenic, romantic and incredibly memorable 3N-4D trip we undertook with our 4-year-old daughter, Smaira to Switzerland. As always, hope you enjoy reading the post and we certainly hope that this post helps you in meticulously planning your trip to the ‘Heaven on Earth’.
London–> Zurich–> Kriens(Stay)–>Grinderwald (Stay)–> Zurich–>London
Day 1
We started our journey from London and had a very vivid and magical journey flying over the mountain ranges while reaching Zurich. We decided to move away from the city life to outer suburbs, where life lived between the mountains. We found Zurich to be so commercial that we decided to skip the beat for a better treat!!!
We went for Swiss holiday in the second week of September 2018. Weather was nice, while some places like Jungfrau, Mt. Titlis were fully covered in snow, the other places had a warmer weather to maximize our outdoor sightseeing.
Recommendation: If you are a snow lover and would like to see the changes in weather in a vivid manner, visit during the month of October.
Mount Titlis
On our arrival at Zurich by flight, we boarded train to Lucerne. At the Lucerne station, we stored our bags in the lockers and took another train to Engelberg. From here we boarded a cable car to reach Mt. Titlis. The best part of the cable ride was the soothing sound of the cow bells from down below. The last time we heard those sounds was in the cult movie “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge”.
This was a very refreshing treat for all of us. The Swiss Alps is a dream destination for everyone, and we ended up playing in snow for a very long time. The views were astounding with 360* view. The place was very engaging, but of course with entrance fees for all the attractions. There was a Glacier park, Ice flyer/Glacier Grotto, Suspension bridge to check out and worth every penny. In fact,Smaira and Minal had such great time sitting on the Ice Flyer that it almost reminded me of Snowy mountain episode of Peppa Pig (just that we got to sit together unlike Daddy Pig in the episode):
One could easily spend 5 to 6 hours here!!!
Tip: You can buy ticket to Mt Titlis from Lucerne Station

We spent entire day at Mt. Titlis and after having picked our staff from station, we went to Kriens where we had booked our stay through Airbnb, this place had a beautiful mountain view over Lucerne . We had great time in Manuel’s (host) home. In fact, since it got late at night and by virtue of these houses being on mountains there wasn’t much natural light. So, we ended bumping into another female tourist who was desperately searching for her booked place. However, she couldn’t find for long, so we decided to invite her in for some time at our place and let her make few phone calls. Once she was gone, we rested and slept off after a while.
Tip: You need to book cab to get to this stay.

Day 2
The next morning we were full with excitement to explore the place around. There were lot of apple orchards around our stay, we happily plucked and ate few apples and even packed them for the day.
Mt. Pilatus
Since the place was at a high altitude, the view of the city was indeed splendid. We started to walk further up and targeted to visit Mt. Pilatus. We opted to walk for a while, before we took a cable car to Mt. Pilatus. The trekking though was long, but very enjoying with many ropeways/Gandola rides available. All those stories/pictures/videos/blogs we had read about Switzerland came to life on this beautiful trek.

Grindelwald
After having visited Mt. Pilatus, we looked forward for our stay in Grindelwald . It was dark by the time we reached our stay.

Day 3
We had booked a very cozy apartment in a posh area with a great mountain view just outside the home as shown (Unfortunately, it’s not listed on Airbnb anymore).

Living in the shadows of such giant felt very blissful!!! We reached late in the night and could appreciate the enormity of this mountain only in morning!!! After having a good night sleep, the next day, the place to visit on our list was Mt. Jungfrau!!!
Mt Jungfrau
Jungfrau, the top of Europe really lived up to its name!!! We visited Alpine sensation, Eismeer (sea of Ice), Lindt Chocolate heaven, snow fun park, Sphinx observatory desk. We wished to spend our entire day here and voila our wish came true!!!

We also visited the Mönchsjoch Hut, a mountain hut located in one extreme here and took us almost 2.5 hours with Smaira to walk up to this place!!! At an altitude of 3,658 metres, this hut is one of the highest huts owned by the Swiss Alpine Club. It was a long trek along the glacier and in fact Smaira was the youngest (4 year old) who walked to this hut (one would not see many tourists coming here)

We had food here (pre packed) with hot tea . Also, we let our socks dry in the sun (We both had regular sports shoes and our socks were socking wet) while we were having our meal . Content and happy with the trek and view, we swiftly moved back to the mountain station, and just made it for the last train.
Day 4
We followed the below itinerary for today.
Grinderwald –> Lauterbrunnen –> Murren –> Grinderwald –> Zurich Airport –> London
Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
Our first stop of the day was Lauterbrunnen. Lauterbrunnen is famous for waterfalls. There are 72 waterfalls in this village.

Staubbach Waterfall, Lauterbrunnen
We planned to visit the Staubbach Waterfall in Lauterbrunnen. This waterfall is just 900 mts distance from the station. Due to paucity of time, we could not go up close. Here is a pic of the waterfall. I would recommend visiting this place only if you have enough time to go to the top and see the waterfall from close.

Murren Village
Mürren is one of those picture-perfect villages in the Swiss Alps. This is a car free village. It can be reached from train or through cable car. We visited this place from Lauterbrunnen through train and back through cable car.
This place has great walking trails and has really good views. But we did not enjoy here much, considering we did not have enough time to go for any walking trail.
Tip : Go only, if you have time for going for any walking trails.
The best part was Smaira got to buy a cute soft toy (a Swiss dog) here which she later named Sparkle. We went back to Griderwald, where we spent some time looking for a souvenir, window shopiing and had a ice-cream at Central Hotel Wolter.
After clicking few more pictures, we boarded another train for Zurich and left Switzerland with a happy heart.

Note:
There are types of three types of major expenses to travel in Switzerland
- Accommodation
- Tickets for sightseeing
- Food
While we could not save on the first two, we saved quite a lot by buying groceries and cooking meals at our Airbnb accommodations.
We had a lovely trip guys and hope you have a lovely time reading and even lovelier time planning!!! Ciao!!! If you would like to read our blog on 3N-4D tip to Iceland. Click here
As usual, I would like to highlight how important it is for all of us to take along nice, sturdy camera that makes the whole experience life lasting in form of lovable memories!!! And here I post this amazing piece of device from Canon which I very strongly believe stands true to its name and lineage. Canon DSLR
